Indirect Questions
Embed questions politely: Ich weiß nicht, ob / wo / wann ...
Two patterns
| Direct question | Indirect question |
|---|---|
| Yes/no: Kommt er? | Ich weiß nicht, ob er kommt. |
| W-question: Wo wohnt sie? | Ich frage mich, wo sie wohnt. |
The conjugated verb always goes to the end.
Politeness
Indirect questions sound softer: Können Sie mir sagen, wie spät es ist? instead of Wie spät ist es?
Common openers
Ich weiß nicht, ... / Wissen Sie, ... / Kannst du mir sagen, ... / Ich möchte wissen, ...
