Use
- With a noun (accusative): Ich möchte einen Tee.
- With an infinitive at the end: Ich möchte Deutsch lernen.
- Polite offers and requests: Was möchten Sie trinken? Ich möchte bitte zahlen.
Compare
ich will sounds direct and strong. Ich möchte is polite and the normal choice for orders and wishes.
