Question types

W-words: wer (who), was (what), wo (where), woher (from where), wohin (where to), wann (when), warum (why), wie (how), welche(r) (which).

kein vs. nicht

• kein negates nouns: Ich habe kein Auto. (kein is declined like ein)
• nicht negates everything else: Ich komme nicht. Das ist nicht gut.

Position of nicht: at the end for the whole sentence (Ich kenne ihn nicht), or before the word you negate (Ich komme nicht heute, sondern morgen).

Answering

Doch answers a negative question positively: Hast du keine Zeit? – Doch, ich habe Zeit.
